Nappa Noir

Nappa Noir is one of the upcoming releases from Six Scents. It’s a collaboration between Raphael Young, the shoe designer, and perfumer Calice Becker. The fragrance is an urban, chic, feminine leather. With a leather note somewhere between soft suede (Bottega Veneta) and the rougher tannery leather (Cuir de Lancome or Cuir de Russie), it is a perfect balance of plush and edgy. Smelled from a distance, violet and iris notes seem to bloom inside the supple leather accord. Nappa Noir is more than ordinarily special.

  1. It’s a very persuasive review. I saw that announcement on NST and vaguely remember hearing previously that brand (?) but I don’t remember reading a full-fledged review for any of their scents. I assume, at some point there was Series 1 & 2 as well.

I look forward to reading you other impressions (and more fiction as well, not necessarily in this combination or order).

    • It’s a lovely perfume. Yes, there were other series, which I had not had much exposure to. I’ll be posting a bit more in the coming days, for sure.

  2. You found your leather! Yay!

And what a beautiful leather it sounds, with a bit of an edge. I’m really intrigued by the gorgeous iris and violet folded inside the leather. Wonderful. Plus it’s always a special day when we get a new fiction piece from you. Loved it as ever.

    • I’m so glad I found it! :) Thanks for your suggestions and help. Interesting to me that this one was created by Calice Becker, who I believe also did Cuir de Lancome.

Thank you for the kind words on the fiction!

  3. Ah, I loved that moment of interaction between narrator and pig, so poignant & direct. And lemmings, I find, also have a way of touching the heart. *adds Nappa Noir to thinkin’-about-it list*

    • Thanks so much, Meg. I struggled with this story and that part particularly, so I’m glad you liked it.

Weren’t you enjoying violet and leather scents recently? If so, I think this one would be worth trying.

  5. This sounds like a great perfume. I felt exactly the same way about Bottega Veneta. It’s reassuring to know that there can be consensus about subjective things like the arts.

And when you wrote that the pigs were riding next to you, I thought you’d mean the cops. Good way to challenge readers’ assumptions!

    • It is always nice to get confirmation in the form of another person seeing/thinking the same, isn’t it? Thank *you* for providing this to me!

Ha ha about the pigs. :)

  6. Hi there, have seen you blog but not commented before but I must say I was stopped in my aimless wanderings by your pig description! Very nicely done. You feel for those pigs, and that is game set and match in descriptive writing.

    • Thank you so much. I have also read but I don’t believe commented on your blog. I appreciate you stopping by, and especially appreciate the amazing compliment. Thank you!
